Ford Field, Detroit
You book before you know your team
The 2027 Final Four is April 3 and 5. Every other trip lets you buy a ticket to a known thing. This one does not, and that single fact drives every decision.
The four teams are not set until the Elite Eight ends, roughly six days before the semifinals. So the honest way to do a Final Four is to lock the trip now, with a guaranteed seat and hotel, rather than gamble on flights and a sold-out Detroit in that six-day scramble. A package is the tool for exactly that. Below is how ours breaks down, where the seats are, and the planning that separates a great weekend from an expensive one.

The weekend
Day by day
Friday, April 2Arrive and take in Final Four Fest
Fly into Detroit Metro, transfer to your downtown hotel, and spend the evening at Final Four Fest, the free-to-your-package fan festival downtown. It is the calm before the weekend.
Saturday, April 3The national semifinals
Both semifinals, back to back, at Ford Field. This is the best value session of the weekend: two games, the full range of the bracket's survivors, and the loudest building in college basketball.
Included: On your own; downtown Detroit is walkable
Sunday, April 4Rest day, or explore Detroit
No games. A day for the city: the riverfront, the Detroit Institute of Arts, Eastern Market, or simply recovering before Monday. This is also the day the finalists' fans pour in.
Monday, April 5The national championship
One game, one trophy. The championship at Ford Field, the crescendo of the season, with your seats and transfers already handled.

What the ticket is
The seats and the strip
A Final Four ticket works differently from a regular game. Here is what the package seat actually is.
Full strip
All three sessions
The package ticket is a full strip: both semifinals on Saturday and the championship on Monday, in the same seat. There is no single-session package; the strip is the product.
300 level
Upper bowl
Package seats are in the 300 level, the upper bowl of Ford Field, which at a 70,000-seat football stadium set for basketball is a genuinely good vantage on the full floor.
Premium and suites
On request
Lower-level, club, and suite options exist on the secondary and hospitality markets and can be quoted, though they move fast and their price is entirely driven by which teams reach Detroit.
Final Four Fest
Included
Not a seat, but part of the weekend: the interactive fan festival downtown, included with the package, and a good use of the Friday and Sunday around the games.
The part nobody explains
The lottery and the six-day scramble
The public lottery closes almost a year before anyone knows the four teams. Once the Elite Eight ends, there are about six days to book a trip to a sold-out city.
The public lottery for 2027 closed on May 31, 2026, before last season's tournament was even played, and winners were notified months before anyone knew the teams. Entrants commit $400 per strip plus a non-refundable $25 fee. If you missed it, the remaining routes are your school's allotment if your team qualifies, an official hospitality package, or a travel package that bundles a guaranteed strip with the hotel and transfers.
Then there is the timing. The Elite Eight ends about six days before tip-off. That is the entire window in which a fan whose team just made it can find flights and a downtown room in a city that has known for a year it is hosting. The whole value of booking early is skipping that scramble.
Downtown Detroit has roughly 6,000 hotel rooms today, up from about 2,000 the last time it hosted in 2009, with more arriving before 2027. That still meets a crowd of around 70,000. Michigan State is the host institution, so there is a live chance the Spartans, or Michigan, play in the Final Four they are hosting, and if that happens the local market tightens far beyond the national average. That is worth planning for now rather than discovering in March.
When to book
As early as you can. The trip is a known quantity even when the teams are not: the dates, the city, the hotel, and the ticket strip can all be locked now. Everything about waiting makes it harder and more expensive.
Confirmed as of July 2026.

FAQ
Questions people actually ask
Can I still enter the 2027 Final Four ticket lottery?
No. The public lottery for the 2027 Final Four closed on May 31, 2026. If you missed it, your routes are your school's allotment if your team qualifies, an official hospitality package, or a travel package like ours that bundles a guaranteed strip with the hotel and transfers.
Do I have to know which team is playing before I book?
No, and that is the whole point. You cannot know: the four teams are not set until the Elite Eight ends, about six days before the semifinals. A package lets you lock the trip now with a guaranteed seat, rather than gamble on a sold-out city in that six-day scramble.
What does a full strip include?
Both national semifinals on Saturday and the national championship on Monday, in the same seat. The lottery and the packages sell the strip, not single games.
Where are the package seats?
The 300 level, the upper bowl of Ford Field. Lower-level, club, and suite seats can be quoted separately, but their price swings hard with which teams reach Detroit.
Is airfare included?
No. Airfare to Detroit is separate. The package covers the hotel, the ticket strip, Final Four Fest, and private airport transfers.
When should I book?
Now. Detroit has a limited downtown hotel base for an event that draws roughly 70,000 people, and if a local team reaches the Final Four it hosts, inventory tightens far beyond the usual. The earlier the hotel is locked, the better.
Booking and logistics
How does payment and the deposit work?
You reserve your package with a per-person deposit and pay the balance on a set schedule, with final payment typically due 60 days before departure. Deposits and payments are non-refundable and non-transferable, so we recommend travel insurance to protect what you pay. Your booking is transacted by a licensed tour operator whose full written terms govern your trip, and no payment is taken through this website. The full terms are on our legal and disclosures page.
Can you plan a trip for one person or a couple?
Yes. Package prices are quoted per person and depend on how many people share a room, so solo travelers and couples are quoted accordingly. Tell us your group and we will price it honestly.
Can you handle a large group?
Yes. We handle private groups, typically parties of eight or more, with dedicated coordination for the tickets, hotel, and logistics so everyone travels together smoothly.
Is Sports Travel Zone a legitimate, licensed agency?
Yes. We are a registered seller of travel, California CST 2155818-70 and Florida ST43282, a service of Early and Away Travel, LLC. Your booking is fulfilled by a licensed tour operator, and we earn a commission when you book.
What is your cancellation and refund policy?
Deposits and payments are non-refundable and non-transferable, and event tickets and hotel-only reservations are final once booked. If you cancel, any amount already paid cannot be refunded, which is why we strongly recommend travel insurance. If an event is postponed or cancelled, you receive updated tickets or a credit only to the extent the ticket or hotel vendor refunds the operator. The full terms are on our legal and disclosures page and are provided to you in writing before you book.
